Ready for More Kelly Corrigan!
Glitter and Glue by Kelly Corrigan was a quick, easy, interesting read. A couple of times, I had to re-read the back cover to remind myself this is a memoir; not fiction. I, like Kelly, never had a "best girlfriend" relationship with my mother and often disagreed with her rules and ideals. Throughout the story, you learn of Kelly's relationship with her mother, how it evolves over time (solely through Kelly's maturation), and how Kelly eventually finds herself emulating her mother while working as a nanny. I believe most mothers are the "glue" of families and that children, later in life, find themselves acting exactly like their mother. I am anxious to read the other books written by Kelly Corrigan.

Mother DOES know best
"What child can see the woman inside her mom?" This to me sums up "Glitter and Glue." Ms. Corrigan needed to go halfway around the world from Pennsylvania to Australia to appreciate her mother not as a "mom" but as a person. I enjoyed this book very much, not only for the discussion of a mother/daughter relationship but also for what it feels like to be an American in another country. The feeling of patriotism, sometimes in a defensive way is something that you cannot understand until you have experienced it. Ms. Corrigan is an excellent writer and I would like to read more of her books. This would be a good book club selection and I can see a lively discussion about family relationships in general not just from the mother /daughter perspective

Kelly Corrigan has an amazing ability to tap into the human psyche and articulate the findings in a way that is both astute and humorous. Her words resonate with mothers, daughters, and women who are trying to figure out family relationships. It's the kind of book you want to share with your best friend, and if you are lucky, your mother.

A Gem
Reading Kelly Corrigan's writing is like sitting down over coffee and dishing about life with a close girlfriend. Her latest memoir, Glitter and Glue, delves into the fraught relationships between mothers and daughters, and how, to a great extent, woman rarely understand or appreciate their mothers until they are themselves mothers. Poignant, witty, and true, this book. I loved it.

A book you want to hug and re read
I love, loved this book. Kelly Corrigan is an involving, passionate writer who tells stories like your best friend. You understand what she's talking about and you nod your head in acknowledgement of the truths she shares. This is a wonderful story about mothers and daughters and the importance of friends. It's about finding out what's really true and how truth changes over time. As her editor wrote: "I'm excited for you to turn the page. You're in for something very special". I agree and would add, you'll also be very sorry when it ends.

Another Winner by Kelly Corrigan
I was a huge fan of Kelly Corrigan's "The Middle Place" and her third book, "Glitter and Glue" is just as good if not better. The book is a powerful meditation on mothers and daughters written from the perspective of an avowed daddy's girl who discovers she has much more in common with her mother than she would have believed. Ms. Corrigan's writing style is casual and engaging. Reading the book is much like reading the blog of a good friend. It is revealing and tender and funny. Highly recommend.

Glitter and Glue
This is a lovely book that many will enjoy. However, every woman of a certain age and/or with children will love this book. Just make sure you have lots of tissues when you do. Both funny and poignant, it is a loving tribute to the author's mother but also a lovely example of how mothers and daughters often don't understand or appreciate each other until later in life. I will be recommending this book to every woman dear to me as a must read.
