Allowing the different perspectives allowed us to be with different characters as they navigated the same events. I think Deepa was one of my favorite characters, I think her life will be difficult as she feels and reacts so quickly. telling the events at the border and with her friend Paco helped me to better understand her character.

I LOVE books with alternating perspectives. In "A Great Country" I felt the biggest advantage of that type of storytelling allowed us to see how Ashok & Priya differed in their thinking about Ajay's behavior and whether they should take him to a specialist. It also highlighted how Deepa is more socially conscious about things things like immigration rallies and Black Lives Matter protests than everyone else in her family, while Maya was more concerned with fitting in at her new school.
