About this Book

Print Excerpt

But when it comes to Stinna, an old lady’s word isn’t worth much. She wants more concrete proof, even though she refuses to accept the photos that I’ve brought.

‘The angle can play tricks on you,’ she says.

Stinna knows full well that most of Dad’s childhood was marked by those ears of his, but right now all she wants is to be right.

‘Even his first memory had to do with those ears,’ I tell her.

‘His first memory?’ Stinna smiles, thinking that now I’m in deep water and I won’t be able to touch bottom. ‘That’s not something I’ve ever heard about.’
