Print Review

Caroline Lawrence was born in London, England. Her American parents returned to the United States shortly afterwards where she grew up in California, graduating from Gunn High School in Palo Alto and then went to Berkeley. From there she won a scholarship to Cambridge (UK). After Cambridge she took an MA in Hebrew and Jewish Studies, after which she taught Latin, French and art at a small London primary school. In 2001 she wrote The Thieves of Ostia and hasn't looked back since! The Roman Mystery series combines her love of art history, ancient languages and travel. She is an enthusiastic and immensely hardworking author who has traveled to hundreds of schools over the past four years giving talks and workshops. The series is extremely popular with children in England but has yet to achieve the same awareness in the USA.

She has a very active website on which she gives her email address. I mention this as I get a constant stream of children writing to me asking how to contact particular authors by email because they have a school project due imminently! The short answer is usually they can't (the established method for writing to authors is by mail, with a response, if it comes at all, measured in weeks). However, Caroline Lawrence is an exception to the rule - given a reasonable time in which to respond there is a very good chance that your child will get a personal response from this author!
