Sobol Literary Enterprises has announced a contest for unpublished writers - with $100,000 total in cash prizes, and literary representation for the 10 winners.
The Sobol Award is the brainchild of Gur Shomron, a technology entrepreneur, who founded Sobol two years ago when he realized how hard it was to get literary representation for his own novel. He now runs the privately funded company with a team of "publishing industry veterans".

Entries cost $85 and only adult, unpublished fiction writers resident in the USA are eligible to enter (see the Sobol Awards FAQ for full eligibility requirements).  Manuscripts must be submitted electronically at www.sobolaward.com between Sept. 14-Dec. 31 2006. 

A pool of paid, qualified readers will assess the manuscripts through the first stage, weeding the entries down to 50 which will be judged by a panel of authors.  Ten winners will be announced, with the top prizes of $100,000, $25,000 and $10,000, and seven $1,000 prizes. All winners will then become clients of Sobol’s agency arm.

In a recent statement Shomron said, "For many talented writers, finding a publisher is more difficult than writing their novel".  He added that "not a single writer will face silent rejection," receiving two or more evaluations from a panel of editors, librarians and others in the book community.
