The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
by Mark Haddon
Fascinating (3/20/2008)
This story is told from a fascinating perspective. It reflects on many adult situations in a wry sense of humor. Sometimes Christopher sees more clearly than those of us without "special needs". This is a sad and humorous story that I highly recommend.
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
by Ishmael Beah
Incredible (3/20/2008)
I would never have understood how a child could become a willing killer if I hadn't read this story. It is a remarkable description that makes you not only believe, but also understand how it happens. I want young people to read this story, not only to know how good they have it in the US, but also to become aware of the circumstances in which others are trying to survive.
The Glass Castle: A Memoir
by Jeannette Walls
Eye-opener (3/20/2008)
I enjoyed this book so much I am having my students read it. I think it is a fascinating perspective on the homeless, and an inspiring story for those who blame their lack of success on bad luck.
