The Fisher Boy
by Stephen H. Anable
An exploding second half... (2/29/2008)
While I wasn't bored, I felt somewhat "ho-hum" and I was into half of this book and I still could not figure out where it was going...then, boom! Suddenly, there were new characters, new twists, a new focus. The plot flew into directions that I had no hint of in the earlier part of the story. Strange, interesting characters appeared and then I couldn't stop reading...I had to see where this story was leading. I will admit, for someone who reads 3 or 4 books a week, this mystery had me puzzled until the last few pages. This book is different but well worth the reader's time and my hat's off to any author who can keep me guessing until the end.
The Pirate's Daughter
by Margaret Cezair-Thompson
A Delightful Surprise (10/10/2007)
I selected this book because I was intrigued by the main character, Errol Flynn. Surprisingly, there are several main characters, each one having their own story to tell involving hardship, romance and civil unrest. While I thought the story lagged a bit in the middle, I stuck with it and became totally (delightfully) engrossed until the end. Kick back, relax and with the author's wonderful ability to describe Jamaica, feel the breeze on your face.
Strange But True
by John Searles
Intriguing Author (5/31/2005)
Recently read this book and loved it. Searles has a writing style that is unique and surprising. His characters draw you into their world. Very refreshing manner of storytelling.
