Excellent debut - it was a great setup for a new mystery series. This book gives the background of the land the local people refer to as The Territory. An interesting assortment of cops and cartels and locals all trying to work out a complex life in the desert. Chief of Police Josie Gray is a believable heroine - someone you'll be rooting for from page one. The book is on the dark side, but Josie remains committed to seeing her town fight the good fight. Highly recommended.
