The Bible of Clay
by Julia Navarro
Inconsistent (4/2/2023)
Early chapters are intriguing, and suggest a DaVinci Code type of story. An interesting general plot that is somewhat scattershot and haphazardly unfulfilled with timely connect-the-dots. It's easily readable, but inconsistent and simplistic in character development. The plot plods toward mid-read, and then speeds-up at the end, leaving ending gaps.
There are too many characters. Characters are naively formulaic and underdeveloped. Many non-believable human reactions to events as the plot unfolds. The writing varies from too much detail and nuance, to a void thereof. The third-person storytelling perspective is inconsistent. This would probably make an interesting villainous screenplay, but is not a believable story where every character bar none in reflective moments sips whiskey.
