When I started to read Too Old for This by Samantha Downing I was initially entertained and amused. The main character Lottie Jones is a 75 year old mother and grandmother who lives on her own. Lottie is often written off as a doddering old lady but some are (correctly) not fooled by her act. Against all odds I found myself liking Lottie. She is certainly creative, resourceful, and extremely good at keeping up with appearances. Unfortunately the further I read the harder it became for me to remain engaged with the story. The plot got a bit monotonous and a whole lot preposterous. Overall it was most definitely a wild ride that would have benefited by the author leaving out some extraneous scenes.

Jessica, Stephanie, and Priyanka are living seemingly happy lives until they each receive a letter that changes everything. The letter accuses all three of their husbands of committing a sexual assault many years ago. These women who have never met band together to get answers.

Truthfully I have no idea what I would do in this situation. The woman in this story all handled it differently. I was curious to see how it would all turn out but I did not love the journey. I felt that there were too many implausible scenarios and that the ending was lacking. Overall I was entertained but I did not love this book.

When I heard what the book True Crime Story A Novel by Joseph Knox was about I thought that it sounded like a very interesting concept. A work of fiction that is presented in a way that makes it seem as if it is true crime. Unfortunately this book fell flat for me. I am not sure if it was the style of writing which was going back and forth between characters with quotes from their individual interviews. It could have been that there is nothing that any of these characters said was even remotely interesting, I really pushed myself to finish this book. I was hoping that the end would make it all worth while. I am sorry to say that it did not.
