What a captivating book! The author obviously respects the intelligence of her young readers since there are several story lines to keep track of. The story is peopled by interesting personalities including strong females. And the setting is every bit as important as the characters - Venice is the perfect backdrop for such a rich plot.

This book is simply wonderful - the characters, the plot and the way the events seem to jump at you out of nowhere will leave you astounded. The way each character is portrayed and how it intertwines fantasy and reality together is enough to just have you stop halfway through the novel and admire it. The way the plot is structured and how each complication presents itself will have you glued to the book until you finish. I myself refused to put it down until my eyes could no longer stay open. You should definitely get this book.

THIS BOOK ROCKS!

I would just like to say that The Thief Lord is an excellent book. Barbarossa is completely hilarious, and the ending leaves you breathless. I would most certainly recommend buying this exquisite book.

An excellent read, from start to finish! It made me want to return to magical Venice, the city that makes me feel like a child (even though I am a grown up). The characters are terrific!

Have you ever read a book, and when someone says something you're yelling "NO! YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID THIS!! DUH!" Well I never said that during this book. It's the kind of book that goes just exactly how you feel it should go. Wonderfully written, the characters (especially the children) are developed so well, you often forget that they are fictional. A beautiful world is painted out for you by Funke's amazing descripitive ability. A must-read! You'll never put it down!
