What readers think of Eragon, plus links to write your own review.

To put it plainly, terrible. I have an IQ of 183, I think perhaps this is the reason that I didn't enjoy Eragon. I don't care that he "borrowed" from other authors, All great writers are guilty of it at some time. The problem is that there was nothing original about this book. I'm not impressed or blown away by the fact that it was written by a 15 year old, that was obvious. I'm simply annoyed that so many people make allowances for his lack of ability or imagination, because he is 15.

The book was poorly written, and I struggled to get through the chapters. No hook. Poor character development, at best. That's being generous. I insisted on reading it because I was told that it was good by my friends. Had I considered the fact that they have the mentality of 15 year olds, I would have realized why they thought it was so good.

I was really excited to read this book at first. Dragons and magic and lots of action! Everything a fantasy reader hopes for!
But then I actually started to read it. The writing was very verbose and longwinded, with lots of unnecessary descriptions (names of horses owned by Eragon's uncle who are never heard from again) and scenes (the part where Eragon and Saphira go swimming.) The names of characters have uncanny resebleances to LotR and the plotline is Star Wars. When I challenge someone to give me ONE original idea from Eragon, they can't. Homage and tribute is one thing, but outright theft is another. To borrow just one idea is one thing, but to steal the entire plotline without acknowledging it is a whole other thing.
I never quite connected with the characters, and felt that lots of things that the characters do are pointless things that Paolini wanted to do.

Honestly, if you think that this novel is "amazing" or "awe inspiring", then you definitely need to read more books. I see nothing in this book that I have not seen in any another piece of fiction. Whether it is Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Earthsea, or Lord of the Rings; Eragon is just one big conglomerate of all these ideas. The thing that annoys me the most, is that their are a wider variety of much more original and better developed fantasy novels that experience no where near the publicity that Eragon does. The reason it is so famous, is that it is read by a bunch of 15 year olds who dislike reading, who are forced to read it by persuasion from their parents, and in turn they over exaggerate how great it is because they have no other previously read works of fiction to compare it to or analyze it with. Read more books people, you'll see what I mean.

Seriously, eragon is one of the most awful books I have ever read. the storyline is forced, the charac ters are bad, and it reeks of awfulness. There is nothing original in Eragon. OK, its good for a 15 year old. But when I read a book, I dont want to have to make allowances for a charcters age to review the book. On its own, Eragon is simply not good. It would never have been published if his parents actually bothered to read it. Plus, Eragon is such a Sue.

At first, I could not wait to read Eargon. I thought it to be so cool with dragons and fighting. but after the first 3 chapter, i was ready to take a snore. The author's writing style is hardly good at all, the plot line is tottally boring and uninteresting, and the charictors themselfs are a snooze. The whole book was blank, not giving anything worth while, or imgaictiveness to read about. I might have piced up a books about the ABC's then that bore of a book. I highly recomend you to read better fantasy books, unless you have nothing else to do.

Ok, this is the second time that i have written my review and you can see that it is a .1. I don't know why ppl like this book sooo much it as good as that. i got the idea from a guy that has the same interest in books as me but i think in this book our ideas of GOOD is really far feched. i couldn't stand reaing that book it mad me so mad because everything dragged on the war the escapes everything. I think this is a complete copy of the LOTR,H.P and all the other books. i really think that this guy is going to get sued so enough it is an insult that he would name it Eargo, from the title would that explain that there is somthing fishy about this book come on.?When i was reading i actually skipped pgs becuase i new exactally what was going to happen. i don't mean to be mean to the author, bet i think he really need to right a book that isn't conected to LOTR,H.P, and NARNIA. especially not connected to LOTR!!!!!!

Christopher Paolini should be sued for plagiarism. The only reason this guy got published is because his parents have "beneficial connections."

I was so excited when the book first came out. I thought, Great! more fantasy! Plus all those reviews saying that if you liked Lord of the Rings you would like this one?(I'm a total LOTR freak.) Exactly the opposite! If you have read LOTR, even just skimmed through it, you will notice that there isn't a single original word in Eragon. THe land and creatures are way too much like LOTR, and the plot is carbon-copied from Star Wars, minute for minute. Oh yeah, and he never manages to even describe what his main character looks like! I was sorry I even bought the book after about two minutes into it. At first, I couldn't figure out for the life of me why Eragon had been published..but ofcourse! His parents published it. i hope, though, that once he gets out of this carbon-copying from other books stage he should be able to become a pretty good writer.
I think that all of the people that gave Eragon 5 stars haven't been able to read any of the great fantasy writers, such as McCaffrey, Pullman, McKinley, or better yet, just go back to the master who started it all: Tolkien. Eragon is just a really badly copied version of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I mean, yeah, I can see how you would say that there isn't much of the Harry Potter influence in here, but nearly everything else is. Also, I've noticed that a lot of the people who like Eragon spen a lot of time calling names at people, but never actually get around to telling exactly why they like Eragon so much. Here are some example of why this book was copied from other books:

Beor=...Beor(oops, forgot to change the name there!)

Dwarves=dwarves

The list could go on and on and on and on.

The only thing that comforts me is that Eragon will disappear in about 10 years, while LOTR has been going strong since the 1950's.
