About this book

Book Summary

A young woman crashes the wedding of the summer on Fire Island in search of her birth mother—and gets a whole lot more than she bargained for—in this warm, heart-stopping getaway from Jane L. Rosen

Maggie Mae Wheeler is content with her life. At 30, she has grand plans for her vintage record shop in the charming Midwestern town where she grew up, and is soon to be engaged to her childhood best friend.

But when she discovers a letter she wrote to herself at thirteen, being content doesn't feel like enough anymore—Maggie needs answers to figure out who she is and where she belongs. Since losing her parents, the only family she has ever known, Maggie decides that finding her birth mother is the best place to start.

Her search leads her to Fire Island, an idyllic summer getaway where her birth mother is attending a wedding. As Maggie observes her biological family from a distance, she sees that they come with a lot of… drama. Torn between diving deeper into their world or returning to her peaceful life and cozy relationship, her decision gets more complicated when a handsome local offers to take her to the wedding — if she will pose as his date.

Is it the magic of the island, the rush of the music, the fun of jumping into the weekend's events with her fake beau? Suddenly, playing the part of his girlfriend starts to feel way too real, and the words to every love song seem to be about them.

"Rosen skillfully balances romance with a nuanced exploration of family dynamics and self-discovery. Recommend to fans of Elizabeth Berg, Adriana Trigiani, or Nancy Thayer." —Library Journal (starred review)

Songs of Summer
A refreshing read about discovering family and self. What could possibly go wrong when a thirty year old music shop owner decides she might want to meet her birth mother.? Maggie Mae , a young woman who loves music and lives thru song in all aspects of her life, is on a quest to find her birth mother with help from Jason, her fiancé and a cast of characters that will make your heart sing.

Songs of Summer was a joyful homage to days past thru the references to music which could easily have been a rom-com musical! While the ending was known early on the way to it was paved in a wonderful dance. It was also very comforting to have the early story set in Chagrin Falls, Ohio….where I have visited often!

Charming Novel
I really enjoyed reading Songs of Summer. The story revolves around Maggie May and her quest to feel apart of her birth mother's family. The characters were so likeable and while the ending was a bit predictable, I enjoyed every bit of it. The music chapter titles were just perfect and added nicely to the texture of the novel. There were a lot of relationship dynamics but you always felt that things would work out in the end. Would love to read a sequel!

Songs of Summer
At thirty, Maggie May Wheeler finally decides to shake up her cozy life and search for her birth mother. Along the way, Maggie crashes a wedding, discovers her dramatic and lovable second family, and meets an intriguing stranger. Sometimes, complicated drama makes for a very enjoyable read. Jane Rosen does an amazing job capturing the chemistry, quirkiness, and drama of the characters, making the book truly fun to read.

A quick summer read (on a January wintry day) that I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to BookBrowse and Berkley Paperback for the early read in exchange for an honest review.

Songs of Summer
This is a delightful book, not a boring page in it. Maggie May has always known she was adopted. She is 30 years old when she and Jason, her childhood forever friend, decided to search for her birth mother, Beatrix has not spoken to her sister for 30 years.

Matt and Dylan are both 30 years old, friends from childhood. They are wondering if there relationship will change now that his mother is marrying her father.
Sounds chaotic I know, but this author skillfully weaves these characters.

A surprise for literature today this book has an ending, actually solves all the issues and relationships. The frequent references to song lyrics almost makes the book feel like a musical.

Songs of Summer
Songs of Summer is a heartwarming and captivating novel. The story follows Maggie May Wheeler, an adoptee who embarks on a journey to find her birth mother on Fire Island.

Jane Rosen skillfully weaves together themes of love, identity, and second chances against the backdrop of a magical summer setting. The novel expertly balances humor and emotional depth, creating a perfect beach read that resonates long after the last page.

With its blend of romance, family drama, and self-discovery, Songs of Summer is a delightful escape for fans of women's fiction. The author's talent for crafting relatable characters and intricate plotlines shines through, making this novel a must-read.

Are you where you thought you would be...
At 30 Maggie goes in search of her birth mother after finding a letter from her 13 year old self. The many discoveries along the way kept me turning the pages. Her relationship with Matt added romance.

I love different POV's and enjoyed both timelines. This book had a lot of heart, dealt with some tough issues like betrayal, loss, adoption & love. I also love music and so enjoyed the way the author inserted music and lyrics into the story. All in all a very entertaining & easy read without a lot of fluff.
