DOES Sally avoid buying into the culture around celebrities? I don't think she totally avoids this. She certainly knows through her friendships with the TNO cast members that celebrities are people too, with feelings and problems. But I think part of her insecurity related to Noah and believing he could truly be attracted to her stem from her inability to fully separate Noah-the-celebrity from Noah-the-human-being. When she's in his presence (or talking via email), she can do this. The moment he's not near her, she frequently snaps back to seeing him through the lens of pop culture.

I don't think she has avoided buying into the culture since she managed to sabotage her relationship with Noah the first time around. And even after she travels to CA she has to give herself an artificial departure date to prevent herself from running. I think what makes her finally believe that someone like Noah could love her is when he helped take care of her step-dad. She could finally see past his celebrity persona and truly leave the celebrity culture behind.

I agree with Erin and Michelle. She only sees Noah as a real person when he is there for her when her stepdad becomes seriously ill. She is seriously thinking of breaking off her relationship with Noah before he shows how kind and thoughtful he is trying to help her navigate this life threatening situation. He has made her and her family a priority and she realizes his true worth.

Sally is part of the entertainment industry but not in front of the cameras. She understands the "rules" and customs that govern the industry but she does not have the same concerns as performers/entertainers who are highly visible to the public. So she does not have to conform her personal life in the ways those folks do . . . until she gets involved with Noah. She doesn't have to "buy in" in the sense that she doesn't have to just accept as true the narrative pedaled by the media and others, but she finds it does impact her when her relationship with Noah is discovered and she becomes the focus of scrutiny. Still, she successfully rises above it because by then, she has grown in self-assurance and confidence, and knows that Noah's feelings are genuine.
